


Saturdays, 10/4-11/8 Six-Week Sewing School, 1pm
Saturdays - October 4-November 8 - 1:00-3:00pm
Ages: 14+
Prerequisite: Must have taken Beginner Sewing 1 or have basic knowledge of machine sewing.
Description: Expand your library of sewing skills and techniques. A new sewing project each week will help you refine your abilities on sewing machine control and fabric manipulation. Over the course, you'll learn about specialized sewing tools and materials, fabric types, how to read and use commercial sewing patterns, and cutting fabric. The goal is to build fundamental skills and confidence to sew a variety of simple items which include embellishments, zippers and special detailing.
Instructor will assist with appropriate fabric choices.
Brief introduction of cool tools/notions (handout).
Learn the basics of fabric properties (handout).
How to work with fabric grainline.
How to use a ruler.
How to correctly lay out a pattern.
How to pin and mark fabric layers.
How to cut correctly.
Sew accurate seam allowances, using the guides on the machine needle plate.
How to topstitch and edgestitch.
How to set a zipper.
How to use the iron correctly.
Materials Included: Sewing machines, fabrics and all necessary tools and materials
Instructor: Kay Enyart is a Pattern Professor, Pattern Designer and textile consultant with over 30 years of experience. Most recently teaching at The Art Center her past accomplishments include working with Mood Fabrics, The Sewing Arts Center and Perpetual Motion Films. She earned a B.S. at UCLA and attended the Beverly Hills Design Institute. Kay is also an active member of several Museums and Sewing societies around the world.
Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Note: Please do not arrive late to class as it is disruptive for the teacher and students.
