Description: Sashiko is a form of Japanese embroidery that began as purpose driven stitching used to reinforce and repair textiles. It has expanded into a beautiful, detailed decorative art. Students will learn sashiko sewing and patterning techniques to create a series of decorative moyozashi (patterned, running stitch design) patterns.

Materials Included: Fabric, thread, and all necessary tools.

Instructor: Sarah Bates is a lifelong maker. She learned to sew and knit as a teenager, but has since added jewelry making, embroidery, and sashiko stitching to her makers journey. A life long Californian, she moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and found her first communities among other makers.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
