Tue 8/20 Make a Skirt with Pockets 6pm

$30.00

Tuesday - August 20 - 6:00-8:00pm

Ages: 14+

Description: This is an intermediate level class for people who know how to use a sewing machine. Get ready for warm weather by sewing this simple elastic waist skirt. The best part? It has pockets!   This is a minimal waste pattern using a simple construction method that students can easily replicate at home.  This class is size and gender inclusive.  Fabric is provided but students are welcome to bring their own fabric if they prefer. Recommended fabrics: stable, lightweight, woven (non-stretch) fabrics. Students who take this class will learn: Pattern reading basics; Cutting skills; Inserting an elastic waistband; Inseam pocket construction; Confidence to sew your own clothing.

Materials Included: Sewing machines and all supplies are provided for class, including fabric. However, students who wish to bring their own supplies (scissors, pins, sewing machine) or fabric are welcome and encouraged to do so. Two yards of a lightweight/midweight woven fabric are needed for class.

Instructor: Amanda has taught middle/ elementary school for over 12 years and discovered garment sewing in 2018 by making a simple woven top and was immediately hooked. Since then, she has learned many more sewing techniques & skills while working toward a goal of crafting a completely handmade wardrobe. Sewing has helped her find more joy and acceptance of my her body, cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship, and develop mindful clothing practices. She hopes to share this feeling of confidence and empowerment with others on their sewing journey. Her approach toward garment sewing is mindful, sustainable, and inclusive of all sized bodies.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
