Sat 2/7 Modern Mending, 3pm

$30.00

Saturday - February 7- 3:00-5:00pm

Ages: 12+

Description: "Modern Mending" is a creative and practical sewing class that teaches participants how to give new life to their clothes using innovative techniques to patch, mend, and upcycle garments. In this class, you'll explore how to repair clothing by incorporating other fabrics, transforming holes, tears, or worn-out areas into stylish, functional patches that breathe new personality into your wardrobe. Rather than simply using traditional patches, you'll experiment with a variety of fabric types—such as patterned textiles, denim, linen, or even reclaimed fabrics from old clothes.

At the end of class, you’ll have the tools and confidence to mend and personalize your clothes, reducing waste and fostering a sustainable, hands-on approach to garment care. You'll also leave with a stronger appreciation for creative problem-solving in fashion, embracing imperfections as opportunities to showcase your own unique style.

Materials Included: All the amazingly wonderful supplies from Remainders and all necessary additional materials. Bring your own item to be mended.

Instructor: Sarah Bates is a lifelong maker. She learned to sew and knit as a teenager, but has since added jewelry making, embroidery, and sashiko stitching to her makers journey. A life long Californian, she moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and found her first communities among other makers.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN

Class Refund Policy: Please email toban@remainders.org with your NAME and ORDER NUMBER at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours’ notice.
