Sun 11/23 Hand Mending & Repair, 3pm
Sunday - November 23 - 3:00-5:00pm
Ages: 12+
Description: Learn to mend and repair textiles including clothing, linens, and other household fabrics with visible styles or more subtle repairs. Hand sewing as well as patching, fabric glues, and interfacing can be used to prolong the life of our textiles. Get the most out of our items and add character and decorations at the same time.
At the end of class, you’ll have the tools and confidence to mend and personalize your clothes, reducing waste and fostering a sustainable, hands-on approach to garment care. You'll also leave with a stronger appreciation for creative problem-solving in fashion, embracing imperfections as opportunities to showcase your own unique style.
Materials Included: All the amazingly wonderful supplies from Remainders and all necessary additional materials. Please bring one or two items to be mended. A sampler of techniques will also be available to learn various skills for a few mending styles.
Instructor: Sarah Bates is a lifelong maker. She learned to sew and knit as a teenager, but has since added jewelry making, embroidery, and sashiko stitching to her makers journey. A life long Californian, she moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and found her first communities among other makers. She loves textiles and hand mending clothes.
Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
Class Refund Policy: Please email toban@remainders.org with your NAME and ORDER NUMBER at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours’ notice.
