Fri 5/1-5/29 Kids Machine Sewing Series 4pm
Friday - May 1-May 29 4:00-5:30pm
Ages: 6-12
Description: Students will create an overall-style garment using a pre-made pattern available in sizes S, M, and L. The design is simplified for beginners—no hardware (no zippers, buttons, or snaps) and minimal seams, with no side seams to make the construction process smoother. The overall will have a relaxed, jumpsuit-like feel. We will be working with non-stretch (woven) fabrics to help students build foundational sewing skills and better understand structure and fit. Students can choose their preferred length, either shorts or full-length pants, allowing for some creativity and personalization within the project.
Teaching Focus: This class focuses on building confidence, learning foundational sewing skills, and completing a wearable garment.
Week 1: Machine Basics Learn machine parts, threading, and basic stitches. Practice on paper and fabric.
Week 2: Pattern + Cutting Understand pattern pieces and cut fabric for bib, body, straps, and loops.
Week 3: Straps + Bib Sew straps and loops, construct the bib, and attach components.
Week 4: Assembly Sew main garment body and attach bib and straps.
Week 5: Finishing Hem garment, try on, and complete tie straps.
Parent Requirements: Upstairs - drop off & sign in all students; pick up and sign out all students; Parents are free to stay for the class to assist your child; parents will be called to pick up their child immediately if there is an attitude or discipline issue.
