Sat 4/18 Freeform Slow Stitching 1pm

$30.00

Saturday - April 18 - 1:00-3:00pm

Ages: 14+

Description: Freeform slow stitching is an explorative, meditative form of embroidery done loose in the hand with no frame, making it easy to pick up anywhere, work on for brief amounts of time, and take with you on the go. With inspiration from Japanese sashiko stitching and Bengali kantha embroidery, running stitches are used to create patterns and designs that can range from complete "chaos" with zero plan or guidance to geometric designs. Students will sketch out a simple design on the fabric, taught how to thread the needle, tie knots, and do the stacked running stitch in the hand to begin filling in the design. Once the basics are taught, the remainder of class is spent stitching and socializing with the other students. Your cloth, one needle, and 5 skeins of embroidery floss can be taken home to continue working at your leisure, as this class is about learning and practicing a technique rather than completing a piece.

Materials Included: Students will be provided with a piece of non-stretch, medium to loose weave cloth, a needle, and an array of embroidery flosses. Scissors and both water or heat erasable pens will also be available for use, as well as some paper stencils for design inspiration.

Instructor: Charlie Nebe is an embroidery artist turned YouTuber who explores many forms of creativity, art, and craft on her channel, The Stitchery, ranging from sewing and hand embroidery to drawing, furniture-building, and macrame. She's always looking for another skill to try out and another project to dive into!

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Class Refund Policy: Please email toban@remainders.org with your name and order number at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours notice.
