Friday - August 7 - 4:00-5:30pm
Ages: 9-14
Description: Students will explore the world of Folk Art Painting inspired by the candid artwork by Clementine Hunter, who began her painting journey at the age of 55 and produced over 5,000 artworks in her lifetime. She depicted scenes from her everyday life-religious life, celebrations, still life of animals and flowers, and her enslaved existence as a farm laborer working in pecan orchards and corn, rice, and cotton fields. As a self taught artist, she painted her life, ideas, and memories with an expressive power that continues to impact artists today. Join us for an afternoon of painting and honoring our everyday lives and discover the sincerity and simplicity of “memory painting.”
Materials: All tools and materials included.
Instructor: Instructor: Sarena (she/they) is an artist, yogi, and self-compassion enthusiast! She has a BFA in animation and feels a profound sense of purpose through community-centered initiatives. Her favorite way to explore creativity is through “play” where she tries to create without judgment, expectation, or rigidity. Sarena’s desire is to express herself with love & authenticity and to help others do the same – especially for the Queer and Neurodivergent community, through the wonderful world of art.
Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Class Refund Policy: Please email toban@remainders.org with your name and order number at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours notice.
