Wed 3/11 Female Fiber Artist Series - WRAPPED SCULPTURE 6pm

$30.00

Wednesday - March 11 - 6:00-8:00pm

Ages: 14+

Description: In this workshop students will draw inspiration from Judith Scott’s art practice to create their own compelling sculptural artworks. Using repurposed soft and hard materials and a variety of techniques, students will create unique and visually inspiring sculptures motivated by their inner own creative compass.

Featured Artist: Judith Scott was a visual artist who found her creative voice through sculpture. A twin, born in 1943, Judith was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and forced to live at a state institution at the age of 7. Only in her 30s did medical staff understand she was deaf, the reason why she was unable to communicate and learn language. In the 1980s her twin sister, Joyce Scott, became her legal guardian and enrolled Judith in Create Growth Art Center, believing in her sister’s ability to express herself. With community support, Judith excelled in her art practice, appropriating found objects to create visceral, texturally rich, and visually compelling sculptural artworks that speak for themselves.

Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials

Instructor: Kelly Dennís Villalba is a visual artist focused on creating unique sculptural artworks to reimagine the idea of the traditional coiled basket. She also enjoys working with analog collage because of how accessible the materials are. She recently moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey, and has lead art studio workshops independently and for art museum audiences geared towards community members and students aged pre-k-adult. Her favorite thing about teaching is being able to share techniques and see students express themselves creatively through the medium. www.kellyvillalba.com and Instagram: @kellybleugreen.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Many thanks to the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division for making our this series possible!
