Wed 3/18 Female Fiber Artist Series - TEXTILE COLLAGE 6pm

$30.00

Wednesday - March 18 - 6:00-8:00pm

Ages: 14+

Description: Finding inspiration in Marie Watt’s art practice, students are invited to create miniature textile collages using reclaimed fabric samples. With the use of transfer paper, beginner sewing techniques, and glue, artists will create compositions that explore texture, color, and story telling.

Featured Artist: Marie Watt is a contemporary textile artist and a member of the Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation of Indians. She cites indigenous visual traditions as a source for her art practice, working across various mediums and techniques. Most known for her work with blankets, Watt explores the symbolism, power, and stories we imprint on blankets from infancy to death. The artist reclaims the material and imbues it with additional meaning, often working in collaboration with other community members.

Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials

Instructor: Kelly Dennís Villalba is a visual artist focused on creating unique sculptural artworks to reimagine the idea of the traditional coiled basket. She also enjoys working with analog collage because of how accessible the materials are. She recently moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey, and has lead art studio workshops independently and for art museum audiences geared towards community members and students aged pre-k-adult. Her favorite thing about teaching is being able to share techniques and see students express themselves creatively through the medium. www.kellyvillalba.com and Instagram: @kellybleugreen.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Many thanks to the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division for making our this series possible!

Class Refund Policy: Please email toban@remainders.org with your name and order number at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours notice.
