Description: Kantha is a Bengali embroidery technique with a rich heritage rooted in storytelling and upcycling. Traditionally used by women to stitch their life experiences or transform worn out clothing into quilts, kantha ranges greatly in styles, from utilitarian to embellished. In this class, we will utilize the inspiration of unembellished kantha to create a small patchwork square, upcycling fabric scraps into a new piece of material ready to be used again.
Featured Artist: Ekta Kaul is an award-winning London-based artist born in India. Ekta's work is exhibited across the UK and is held in several prestigious private and public collections including the Museum of London and the Crafts Council, UK. Instructor: Charlie Nebe is an embroidery artist turned YouTuber who explores many forms of creativity, art, and craft on her channel, The Stitchery, ranging from sewing and hand embroidery to drawing, furniture-building, and macrame. She's always looking for another skill to try out and another project to dive into!
Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
