Featured Artist: Vincent Van Gogh painted in the impressionist style and was influenced by the work of contemporary impressionists of his time like Pisarro and Monet. His use of saturated color has influenced generations of painters. Although he was never recognized in his own lifetime, his paintings have been some of the most collected pieces of art in history.
Description: Using a variety of brightly colored oil pastels, participants will design and draw a scene. Then to emulate oil painting, they will apply a bright watercolor wash, exposing the pastel drawing through the colored wash.
Skill Building: Learning to use oil pastels; Planning and design of a favorite interior or outdoor scene; Introducing the concept of resist between oil and water based materials
Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials.
Instructor: Sarena (she/they) is an artist, yogi, and self-compassion enthusiast! She has a BFA in animation and feels a profound sense of purpose through community-centered initiatives. Her favorite way to explore creativity is through “play” where she tries to create without judgment, expectation, or rigidity. Sarena’s desire is to express herself with love & authenticity and to help others do the same – especially for the Queer and Neurodivergent community, through the wonderful world of art.
Parent Requirements: Upstairs - drop off & sign in all students; pick up and sign out all students; Parents are free to stay for the class to assist your child; parents will be called to pick up their child immediately if there is an attitude or discipline issue.
Location: Upstairs in our Creative Space. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
