Sat 7/18 Family Art - Kahlo Portraits 10am

Ages: All - Children under 8 must attend with an adult, which would be one signup
Featured Artist: Frida Kahlo was influenced as an artist by her father who was a professional photographer and painter. He taught her about all of the wonderful things in nature such as rocks, birds, insects, animals and shells. He also gave her lessons in Mexican archaeology and art. She also learned many different sewing skills from her mother. Her paintings are very personal and always include natural elements.
Description: Using a variety of brightly colored pencils, participants will draw their own portraits then paint or add natural elements such as dried flowers, shells, butterfly wings and more to embellish the background.
Skill Building: Facial proportions for portraiture; Prismacolor pencil methods; Adding ephemeral elements to 2D artwork
Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials.
Instructor: Sarena (she/they) is an artist, yogi, and self-compassion enthusiast! She has a BFA in animation and feels a profound sense of purpose through community-centered initiatives. Her favorite way to explore creativity is through “play” where she tries to create without judgment, expectation, or rigidity. Sarena’s desire is to express herself with love & authenticity and to help others do the same – especially for the Queer and Neurodivergent community, through the wonderful world of art.
Parent Requirements: Upstairs - drop off & sign in all students; pick up and sign out all students; Parents are free to stay for the class to assist your child; parents will be called to pick up their child immediately if there is an attitude or discipline issue.
Location: Upstairs in our Creative Space. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
