$110.00

Wednesdays - July 1-29 - 6:00-8:00pm

Ages: 14+

Prerequisites: "Introduction to Sergers" or equivalent is required.
Students are also welcome to bring their own sergers.

Description: Come make a cozy cardigan together! In this 3 week mini-series we will work on improving your serger skills by sewing an open front cardigan using the serger machine. We will discuss fabric options, review basic skills for sewing with knits, and share basics of sewing stretch fabrics on a serger, all while constructing an open front cardigan pattern. This class is geared toward the advanced beginner sewist who is confident in the basics of sewing and pattern reading. We will not be covering serger basics in this class. Students who wish to bring their own fabric or machine are welcome to do so. Fabric should be a light or mid-weight knit fabric with a minimum of 40% horizontal stretch & 20% vertical stretch. Feel free to reach out to Amanda with any questions.

Weekly Plans:

Week 1: Pattern reading, fabric selection, minor adjustments and cutting fabric
Week 2: Test sewing our knit fabrics, understanding differential feed and tension, sewing shoulder seams and sleeves
Week 3: Sew side seams, bodice, and bottom band.
Week 4: Sew front arm band arm cuffs and topstitching.

Instructor: Amanda Edwards has taught middle/ elementary school for over 12 years and discovered garment sewing in 2018 by making a simple woven top and was immediately hooked. Since then, she has learned many more sewing techniques & skills while working toward a goal of crafting a completely handmade wardrobe. Sewing has helped her find more joy and acceptance of her body, cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship, and develop mindful clothing practices. She hopes to share this feeling of confidence and empowerment with others on their sewing journey. Her approach toward garment sewing is mindful, sustainable, and inclusive of all sized bodies.

Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.

Note: Please do not arrive late to class as it is disruptive for the teacher and students.

Class Refund Policy: Please email remainders.edu@gmail.com with your name and order number at least 48 hours before the first class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
Because we need time to fill vacant spots, there are no refunds with less than 48 hours notice.
