Wed 1/22 Coiled Basket Weaving 6pm
Wednesday - January 22 - 6:00-8:00pm
Ages: 14+
Description: Explore the art of Basket Weaving inspired by the basketry artworks made by California Native Artists. Drawing inspiration from historic basketry techniques, you will learn to create your own noteworthy basketry artworks using soft coiling material and yarn. In this two hour workshop you will learn how to start a basket and incorporate patterns into your unique design. Follow in the legacy of California Native Artists and gain a deep appreciation and connectedness to this extraordinary art form.
Materials: Assortment of flexible rope and colorful yarns. All tools and materials included.
Instructor: Kelly Dennís Villalba is a visual artist focused on creating unique sculptural artworks to reimagine the idea of the traditional coiled basket. She also enjoys working with analog collage because of how accessible the materials are. She recently moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey, and has lead art studio workshops independently and for art museum audiences geared towards community members and students aged pre-k-adult. Her favorite thing about teaching is being able to share techniques and see students express themselves creatively through the medium. www.kellyvillalba.com and Instagram: @kellybleugreen.
Location: All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN
Class Refund Policy: Please email remainders.edu@gmail.com with your name and order number at least 48 hours before the class to receive a refund. A 20% cancellation fee applies.
